AAC Block Adhesive

A polymer-based thin-set adhesive is perfect for laying AAC blocks and other lightweight masonry units. It provides strong bonding, flexibility to prevent cracks, and faster curing with minimal water. The thin-set application reduces structural load and enhances thermal insulation, making it an efficient and cost-effective choice for modern construction.

Installation

Surface Preparation:

  • Temperature: Ensure that all surfaces are between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C). Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, and free of dirt, oil, grease, concrete sealers, curing compounds, or any other contaminants that may affect adhesion.
  • Surface Condition: Rough or uneven surfaces should be smoothed with an appropriate underlayment to achieve a wood float finish or better.
  • Surface Cleanliness: Ensure the surface is free from dirt, dust, debris, grease, and other contaminants. While installation can be done on a damp surface, it must be dry and clean for the best adhesion. The surface should be level, and any cracks or uneven spots should be repaired.

Structural Requirements:

  • Plumb and True: All slabs must be plumb and true within ¼” (6mm) over a span of 10 ft (3m). This ensures that the wall or floor is adequately prepared for the ACC block installation.

Expansion Joints:

  • Follow the ANSI Specification AN-3.8 “Requirements for Expansion Joints” or TCA Detail EJ171 “Expansion Joints.” Do not cover expansion joints with mortar, as they need to be free to move to prevent cracking.

Mixing Instructions:

  • Mixing Ratio: For 50kg of AAC Block Adhesive Thin Bed Mortar, mix with approximately 15 liters of potable water.
  • Mixing Process: Add water to the mixing container first, then gradually add the adhesive powder while mixing. Use a slow-speed mixing machine or mix by hand for 3 to 5 minutes until a smooth, lump-free, thixotropic mix is achieved.
